For first time mothers, there are unexpected instances that even though their doctors have already told them, but have only sunk in and realized it when they are already experiencing it first hand. Breastfeeding is still the best way in giving nutrition to newborn babies. And mothers have this joy in feeding them with their own physical capability.

The challenges that these first time mothers would go through is immeasurable. The feeding would tend to have a lot of common breastfeeding problems for the mothers in terms of lactation, infection, comfortability, and many others. That is why the doctors would be there to help you, but knowing first hand what to do is very beneficial.

There are latching pains that may happen for the mother. This is either caused by incorrect positioning of the mouth or by some other underlying causes. First, you need to remove the latch by sliding one finger and letting the baby release the latch. You can either wait for them to yawn or tickle their chins so you can reposition and have them latch again.

Cracked nipples tend to happen because of dry skin, improper pumping, thrush, or basically just latching problems. Do the same as the above in repositioning the baby. You can also let the cracked areas heal by spreading the milk over it and letting it air dry. Do not use other household products and only use water to moisturize it or, of course, the breast milk.

Clogged or plugged ducts may be an underlying symptom for an infection if it comes with feverish tendencies and aches that stretches for long period of time. If that is not the case and it is only redness and a light bearable sore feeling, you can try massaging it to increase milk flow and movement. Apply warm compress as well.

Sometimes the lactating can come in large amounts which makes it difficult for the baby to feed or properly latch. Try hand expressing first which controls the flow and softens the breast. The more you nurse, it is less likely for your breast to get engorged.

Mastitis is an infection caused by bacteria. It is accompanied with fever and breast pains. This might be caused by engorgement, plugged ducts, and cracked skin. The only way to solve this is through antibiotics, hot compression, and frequently expressing the milk.

Yeast and fungi may cause thrush which gives of a nasty rash and annoying itchiness. This is likely first found on the mouth and lips of the infant which tends to be passed towards the breasts of the lactating mother. Have this checked by the doctor to get recommendations on the anti fungal medicines that you can use. Also, the application is both on the mouth of the baby and then the breasts.

The needle poking sensation on the breasts is normal on a certain level. But if this goes beyond than just a few minutes and becomes more painful, this could be an infection. Determine the kind of infection you have by visiting your doctor and also to get prescription medicines from them.
